Stinky feet can arise for a number of different reasons. However, the most common are poor foot hygiene and the multiplication of excessive bacteria. Stinky and sweaty feet can be very embarrassing, but with the help of some effective homemade remedies, you can easily and successfully prevent them. Here are some homemade remedies for stinky feet and excessive sweating.

What Causes Stinky Feet

The primary cause is sweaty feet. Sweat, even if it doesn’t smell bad, creates an environment where bacteria multiply quickly.

Bacterial growth is responsible for stinky feet. Using the wrong shoes and/or socks (mainly polyester and nylon) and insufficient ventilation make it worse.

Socks absorb a variable amount of sweat that sits on the feet. Stepping into your shoes without socks increases the amount of sweat.

The sweat comes into contact with your feet and this causes the growth of bacteria that cause a bad odor. Hairy feet is another factor that causes bacterial growth.

Stinky feet or bromhidrosis are caused by bacteria that grow on hot and damp feet. Sweat provides a favorable environment for bacteria to multiply.

The soles of the feet contain a countless number of sweat glands that secrete sweat. Sweat is made of water, sodium, chloride, fats and acids. Bacterial growth and the production of these components causes stinky feet.
