9 Tips To Prevent Split Ends

You may have tried everything to prevent those pesky split ends, and nothing seems to work. Don’t panic: there is an easier, healthier and cheaper way to fight split ends! Learn about it in this article!

Tired of cutting your hair every time to get rid of split ends ? You may have already tried several and many specific products such as conditioner or serum to prevent split ends. But no product has ensured that you could prevent this.

In this article we will give you some important tips so that you can prevent this problem in  a natural way, so that you have beautiful, healthy and hydrated hair.

1. Apply vegetable oil to your hair

Forget the chemical serums, which are very expensive and only take care of your hair when you have it in your hair. We suggest that you replace it with nourishing vegetable oil. You only need a few drops in the ends of your hair to keep it healthy. Try coconut, jojoba, or argan oil. It really works!

2. Trim your split ends every three months

It may hurt you to hear this when you’re trying to avoid the hairdresser and let your hair grow out.

However, if you cut half an inch of your hair every three months, you will not notice the cut. On the other hand, your hair will continue to grow healthy and strong. This way you avoid having to cut a much larger piece of your hair at a later time.

3. Choose a natural shampoo

Shampooing is important. However, shampoos containing sulfates dry and damage your hair, especially the ends. Even though they clean your hair well and leave a nice feeling from the first day you use it.

We recommend that you choose a natural, sulfate-free shampoo and wash only your scalp . Never apply the shampoo directly to the ends of the hair. These will be clean by the foam that forms on your hair. This way you avoid more hair breakage.

4. Apply hair masks to dry hair

Even though we want the hair products to work, we don’t want to lose too much time on this. The manufacturers know this and give us the instructions on how to use the product. Usually this is that we have to leave the hair mask on for at least one to two minutes.

However, to make a hair mask really effective, it’s best to apply it to dry hair and leave it on for at least ten minutes. You can let the mask retract while you do other things. You can also leave it on all night and rinse in the morning in the shower.

5. Comb your hair with the right brush

Choosing a good comb or brush is essential to avoid split ends. We are not talking about the very expensive and professional hair brushes, but the wooden and natural brushes.

These types of brushes do not damage your hair and do not produce static electricity. On the other hand, brushes made of plastic or other synthetic materials do.

Gently brush your hair every night before going to bed  so that the natural oil from your scalp moisturizes your hair.

6. Be careful with the straightener and hair dryer

You probably already know that the  straightener and blow dryer damage and weaken the fibers of your hair. This makes the hair fragile, which can cause your hair to break and dead ends to appear.

Therefore, try  to avoid these devices whenever possible. If you do use them, try to use the types that cause the least damage to your hair, such as those with ceramic or infrared components.

7. Eat Balanced

Sometimes split ends are caused by a lack of vitamins, minerals, proteins or fatty acids. When your body is deficient in certain nutrients, it ‘steals’ them from your hair to use them for more important functions of your body.

Be sure to eat the following foods daily:

  • Raw fruits and vegetables
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Avocados
  • Vegetables
  • Fatty fish
  • Whole grains

9. Drink water

Split ends can also be related to dehydration. Our hair, like the rest of our body, needs water.

We recommend that you  drink at least eight glasses of water a day. You can already drink two glasses of water on an empty stomach in the morning, two in the afternoon and two in the evening, always outside your meals.

10. Massage your scalp

A good daily scalp massage is not only relaxing but also useful to activate blood circulation. It will help the nutrients reach your hair.

Do this once a day by making circular motions with your fingertips on your scalp. You can also have someone else do it while you enjoy the massage.
